I have a wide-ranging set of research interests, covering many aspects of contemporary theatre and performance. I am also increasingly concerned with exploring inter-disciplinary research initiatives, and believe that theatre/performance studies has much to offer in such two-way dialogues.

I work as part of the Mathematical Modelling in Finance and Economics Group in which we model financial systems with uncertain price and uncertain physical flow, leading to non-linear PDEs which must be solved numerically. I have investigated such systems in the world of mining, working with the international leading mining software company Gemcom, and also within the framework of Revenue Management systems, working with the local business Inventive IT.

The current focus of our group is the application of probability theory at the interface between mathematical finance and power systems engineering. From 2013 to 2017 I have an EPSRC Early Career Research Fellowship titled Optimal prediction in local electricity markets focusing on the pricing and hedging of risk in electricity demand, for better balancing of future power systems.

I am an evolutionary ecologist and am interested in the role and maintenance of biodiversity, both within and among species and the provision of ecosystem services. Around campus, I have an interest in urban ecology and conduct research on plant-pollinator interactions in urban environments and the assessment and importance of urban biodiversity.

My current research interests cover all aspects of applied theatre, particularly theatre and performance in war and disaster zones, and then I have related interests in the performative aspects of war and humanitarianism. I have a particular interest in theatre and performance in Sri Lanka and theatre programmes in eastern DR Congo. I have worked in Sri Lanka for UNICEF's Children Affected by Armed Conflict Unit and developed a range of theatre projects for communities affected by the war.
