Within the 'big area' of Flexible Low-Carbon Distribution Networks (medium and low voltage) the following are my main research interests:

- Optimisation of Distribution Networks (operation and planning)

Prof Martin Evans

Martin Evans did graduate work on lake sediment budgets in the alpine zone of British Columbia before returning to the UK to work on upland peatlands, first at Durham and then in the Upland Environments group at Manchester. He has research interests in the geomorphology and hydrology of upland landscapes. Currently the major focus is on upland peatland systems, working on processes of peatland erosion and restoration and their impacts on water and carbon fluxes.

Dr Megan Jobson

Megan has industrial experience as a process engineer with Unilever. Her research aims to develop design methodologies for separation and reactive separation processes that are inherently efficient, in terms of energy demand, raw material consumption, waste production and generation of emissions.

Mr Michael Traut

Following completion of my PhD at Tyndall Manchester (supervisors: Alice Bows-Larkin and Ruth Wood), I am now an EPSRC Doctoral Prize fellow in the same group. My research focusses on shipping and climate change, and monitoring and quantifying emissions, and on mitigation technologies in the shipping sector. I am associated with the EPSRC-funded consortium proejct Shipping in Changing Climates (SCC) as well as the project Fleet Suite.

Prof Kevin Anderson

Kevin Anderson is Professor of Energy and Climate Change in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at the University of Manchester. He is Deputy Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and is research active with recent publications in Royal Society journals and Nature. He engages widely across all tiers of government; from reporting on aviation-related emissions to the EU Parliament, advising the Prime Minister's office on Carbon Trading and having contributed to the development of the UK's Climate Change Act.

Dr Jenni Viitanen

Jenni's current research portfolio includes future cities/ urban technologies, energy and housing.

She is an expert advisor to the FP7 project IREEN (ICT Roadmap for Energy Efficienct Neighbourhoods), and a researcher on a number of projects including SMARTiP (Smart Metropolitan Areas Through Innovation and People); Housing in Multiple Occupancy: Energy Issues and Policy (HOME); and Community Approaches to Housing Retrofit in Greater Manchester.
