Prof Caroline Moser

As an urban social anthropologist/social policy specialist I have more than forty years ofexperience relating to urban development and social policy on a range of issues including academic and policy-focused research, teaching and training. As a researcher I have undertaken primary field-based research on urban poverty, urban violence, household asset vulnerability and accumulation strategies, gender and development and the informal sector in countries such as Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala and Jamaica.

Dr Admos Chimhowu

My research has thus far focused on understanding processes agrarian change and social transformations in the Less Developed Countries. In my work I have sought to generate policy relevant knowledge on how changing agrarian structures transform and influence the way rural communities relate to natural resources (particularly land) and, how this relationship in turn shapes the way they make a living.

Dr Aleksandra Kazmierczak

Aleksandra gained an MSc in Geography from the University of Warsaw, Poland in 2003 and then an MSc in Environmental Resources from the University of Salford in 2005. Her PhD focused on the associations between urban green spaces and social cohesion in Greater Manchester.

Aleksandra is a Research Fellow in the themes of Cities and Climate Change and Green Infrastructure. She represents the University of Manchester in the European Topic Centre on Climate Change Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation.

Dr Alfredo Stein

Alfredo is an urban development planning specialist with more than 28 years of experience in the design, management, monitoring and evaluation of low-income housing, municipal and local development, post-emergency reconstruction and urban poverty reduction planning, policies and projects in Latin America, Africa and Asia. He has comprehensive experience as lecturer and teacher on urban development issues in different universities in Europe and Latin America; and in setting up training and capacity building programs for central and local governments and NGOs.

Dr Alison Browne

Alison has a number of active and interdisciplinary research projects on everyday practice and sustainable consumption; dirt, cleanliness and freshness; and the governance of water resources, drought, and climate change adaptation. In previous research projects she explored the governance of large scale resource development (e.g., agriculture, NRM, water infrastructure, mining) using 'environmentality', 'risk' and 'mega-project paradox' frameworks.

Dr Amanda Bamford

Amanda completed a BSc (Hons.) Applied Biology at Bath University and then went to University of Lancaster for her PhD studies. Her PhD at the University of Lancaster, in association with Letcombe Laboratory, Oxford, was funded by N.E.R.C. and titled: Fluxes of carbon and nitrogen in barley exposed to atmospheric nitrogen dioxide.

Dr Andrew Karvonen

University Living Lab Co-Principle Investigator with James Evans

I am a Lecturer in Architecture and Urbanism in the School of Environment, Education and Development at the University of Manchester.

My research bridges the design disciplines and the social sciences with a particular focus on urban sustainability. I also have a decade of experience as an environmental and sustainability consultant and am a licensed engineer in the State of Washington.
