Dr Sarah Lindley

I am a quantitative geographer specialising in the use of geospatial analysis to understand the outcomes of human-environment interactions. My main research interests are associated with urban air pollution and climate adaptation. Much of my research activity is motivated by the need to develop sustainable responses to current and future environmental challenges. I therefore often work in multi-disciplinary teams and in collaboration with stakeholders.

Dr Simon Brocklehurst

My research interests in tectonic geomorphology are based around landscape response to climate change and tectonic processes. This includes:

- the impact of glacial erosion on previously fluvially-sculpted mountain ranges

- the response of fluvial and glacial landscapes to active tectonics

- erosion and sediment routing in active extensional settings

Dr Simone Turchetti

I am interested in exploring the history of contemporary science and technology, especially in connection with the emergence of ‘big science’ and the development of international relations. I am pursuing an independent and interdisciplinary research programme which aims at providing a novel picture of the relations existing between the scientific community, the diplomacy and the intelligence agencies, especially during the post-WW2 period and the Cold War years.

Hydrology and hydrochemistry, is studied at all scales from laboratory simulation where conditions are wholly controlled to field scale where, though uncontrolled, conditions are monitored.  This work has been developed through the founding of a University spin out company Intelisys Ltd, which develops commercial monitoring equipment.

Dr Tim O'Brien

My research concentrates on the study of exploding stars using telescopes around the world and in space, working across the spectrum from radio waves to X-rays.

I teach undergraduate and postgraduate students and also carry out a wide range of public engagement activities including being the primary media contact for Jodrell Bank. This includes work with the media, schools and events at Jodrell Bank.

Tim is Associate Dean for External Relations in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences; also Associate Director of Jodrell Bank Observatory.

Dr Vladimir Jankovic

The principal objectives of my past and current research have been about the scope, scale and social conditions of the scientific and social engagement with weather and climate. I am particularly interested in the socio-cultural forces behind the notion of atmospheric environment as a normative framing of climate as a resource and agency, with focus on climate as a space of mundane social identity and economic action. The shift from theorized towards lived climates has led me toward examining the problem of scale in the scientific and public understanding of the weather.

Dr Paul Gilbert

Dr Paul Gilbert is a lecturer in climate change, sustainability and project management within the School of Mechanical Aerospace and Civil Engineering at the University of Manchester. He is a member of Tyndall Manchester within the international Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and contributes to undergraduate/postgraduate teaching on carbon management, sustainable waste management and project management. Paul joined the University of Manchester in 2009 as a Research Associate on the EPSRC SuperGen Bioenergy Consortium.
