Dr Martin Henery

Martin joined Manchester Enterprise Centre as an Enterprise Fellow in 2002 before taking up the post of Enterprise Academic in 2004.

He worked for a number of years as a research assistant at UMIST developing a range of technologies. One of these became a new company where Martin developed medical instrumentation for the US market.

His interests are technology and knowledge transfer, and creating new opportunities and ventures. Martin's skills are product development, creativity and problem-solving.

Dr Mark Jayne

My research interests focus on urban social and cultural geography. In particular I am concerned with theorizing the intersections of consumption, production, regulation, governance and policy. I have also written on issues such as identity, lifestyle and forms of sociability, affect, emotions and embodiment.

The central theoretical concern of my work is to re-think ‘the city’; to interrogate political and economic practices and processes through social and cultural analysis; and to understand geographies of alcohol, drinking and drunkenness.

Prof Noel Castree

My principal research interest is the political economy of environmental change.

Drawing upon Marxist theory, I've made some very modest contributions to ongoing debates about the ecolological implications of the capitalist way of life. More broadly, I've sought to shape thinking about society-environment relations through my coedited books Remaking Reality (1998) and Social Nature (2001). They tried take seriously the 'materiality' of the biophysical world, while conceding the power of 'social constructionist' perspectives on nature and environment.

Dr Nicholas Bryan

The main research area of my group is Environmental Chemistry, and in particular, the interaction of radionuclides with natural systems. Current projects involve the study of the interaction of these elements with natural colloids, including humic substances. Colloids have a high affinity for many pollutants, and can act as a vector for their migration in the environment. Lab experiments are used to study sorption and desorption mechanisms, and are backed up by work involving real samples from the field.
