Mechanical Engineering and Energy Team

The M&E Team is responsible for specifying, developing and overseeing the utilities infrastructure.

The team has to balance the requirements of reducing energy and utilities consumption in line with agreed (legal and best practice) targets, while providing a suitable environment for University activities to be undertaken.

- Applications of industrial process tomography: pressure filtration, polymerisation, solid-state fermentation, product ageing, fluidised beds, soil monitoring

- Electronic systems design - analogue and digital electronics, DSP, software

- Processing of tomographic data in software and hardware: 3D finite element modelling with EIDORS 3D to yield 3D image reconstruction.

Prof Michael Turner

My principal research interests concern the synthesis of novel conjugated molecules, particularly conjugated liquid crystals and conjugated polymers, and in using these novel molecules in organics electronic and electrooptical devices such as organic transistors, organic light emitting diodes, sensors and solar cells.

Dr Megan Jobson

Megan has industrial experience as a process engineer with Unilever. Her research aims to develop design methodologies for separation and reactive separation processes that are inherently efficient, in terms of energy demand, raw material consumption, waste production and generation of emissions.
