I manage a team of seven which make up the External Affairs Office, our core remit being the recruitment and admission of undergraduate, postgraduate taught and research, and CPD students into the School of Computer Science. I also oversee our outreach work in schools and colleges and work with current students as ambassadors for the School.

Dr Tim O'Brien

My research concentrates on the study of exploding stars using telescopes around the world and in space, working across the spectrum from radio waves to X-rays.

I teach undergraduate and postgraduate students and also carry out a wide range of public engagement activities including being the primary media contact for Jodrell Bank. This includes work with the media, schools and events at Jodrell Bank.

Tim is Associate Dean for External Relations in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences; also Associate Director of Jodrell Bank Observatory.

I have a strong interest in conservation biology and field course teaching and I have taught on field courses for over 10 years. Much of my field work is done in the neotropics as part of conservation and development projects. I am a certified Senior Ecologist (ESA) and a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society.

Mr Peter Fell

Peter has been employed by the University of Manchester as Director of Regional and Economic Development since 2000. He has responsibility for managing the university's complex civic and regional strategic relationships. He has a comprehensive understanding of the region's political and business environment, having worked at senior level for a number of public bodies including the North West Regional Assembly, Stockport Council and Merseyside Training and Enterprise Council (TEC).

Dr Maria Balshaw

Maria Balshaw has been Director of the Whitworth Art Gallery since June 2006. She has coordinated a challenging programme of historic, modern and contemporary exhibitions that capitalise on the Whitworth’s university location as well as having a strong international profile. She has led a successful campaign to expand the gallery and reconnect it to the surrounding park as well as modernise and revitalise the whole gallery.

Dr Jeremy Carter

Jeremy's research focuses on environmental planning and management. Specific interests include climate change adaptation, spatial planning, water resource management (including flood risk management and the Water Framework Directive) and scenario planning. He has led research projects and published peer reviewed academic papers across these fields.
