Social responsibility is one of our three core strategic goals in our Manchester 2020 strategy, sitting equally alongside our commitments to world-class research and outstanding learning and student experience.

Public Participation GIS Research Group

The main aim of the research here is to develop and test web-based Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to enhance public involvement and participation in environmental planning and decision making.

These systems are referred to as PPGIS.

The main objective is based on the belief that by providing citizens with access to information and data in the form of maps and visualisations they can make better informed decisions about the natural and built environment around them.
