My research is motivated by interdependencies between human behaviour and mechanisms/institutions designed for environmental protection. I do game theoretic modelling and experimental work.My work includes conservation and management of natural resources, behavioural impact on environmental policies, designing mechanism/institutionfor environmental protection, and environmental regulation. I also look at philosophical and behavioural underpinnings of valuation of environmental goods.

My expertise and research is in Manufacturing Technologies (machining science, micro manufacturing, laser processing and sustainable manufacturing). I obtained a PhD and MSc in Manufacturing Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Technology respectively from The University of Liverpool, UK. I am excited about developing engineering science solutions to the major challenges of resource efficiency and industrial sustainability.

My research is interdisciplinary in nature and pursues questions emerging from the ambiguous status of nonhumans in modern knowledge-practices. In social thought nonhumans are often a kind of absent presence, rendered marginal as a 'context' of human agency, whilst simultaneously performing the invisible work of shaping foundational notions of the human. The marginalisation of nonhuman animals in particular points towards a fundamental ontological asymmetry involved in social scientific conceptions of 'the social'.

I have a strong interest in conservation biology and field course teaching and I have taught on field courses for over 10 years. Much of my field work is done in the neotropics as part of conservation and development projects. I am a certified Senior Ecologist (ESA) and a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society.

Prof Richard Pattrick

Research interests:

Pure and applied mineralogy, geochemistry and metallogenesis. This work has ranged from experimental investigations to field studies. The mineralogical investigations have focussed on the chalcogenides (esp. sulfides) and magnetic oxides, using experimental synthesis combined with spectroscopic analysis, including synchrotron XAS and diffractiontechniques.
