Prof Aneez Esmail

Professor of General Practice

Aneez qualified as a medical practitioner from Sheffield University in 1982. He completed training as a general practitioner in 1987 and as a public health physician in 1992. He obtained his PhD from the University of London in 1996.

He is recognised nationally for his research on discrimination in the medical profession (Racism). Much of the work that he has carried out in this area has resulted in significant changes in recruitment, selection and monitoring of the medical profession. This work was recognised internationally with the award of a Harkness Fellowship in 1997. During the Harkness Fellowship he spent a year as a Visiting Professor at Harvard Medical School.
