David Clarke's research  motivation lies primarily in innovation to detect and respond to biological events in situ at individual molecule level,  by working across the fields of peptide and lipid chemistry,  photon science and nanotechnology. World firsts developed with over 30 postdoctoral researchers and over 20 graduate research students have led to outputs including many licenses and over 10 spin out companies, based on over 40 patent applications and granted patents, as well as academic publications.

Photon Science Institute

The Photon Science Institute was established in 2005 to bring together experts from a wide range of scientific fields to foster the development of cross and multi-disciplinary collaborations and provide a dynamic and exciting culture for the progression of new ideas in photon science. The term photon science encompasses all areas where light is used in scientific endeavour — light for science.
