Dr John Moriarty

The current focus of our group is the application of probability theory at the interface between mathematical finance and power systems engineering. From 2013 to 2017 I have an EPSRC Early Career Research Fellowship titled Optimal prediction in local electricity markets focusing on the pricing and hedging of risk in electricity demand, for better balancing of future power systems.

Dr Paul Johnson

I work as part of the Mathematical Modelling in Finance and Economics Group in which we model financial systems with uncertain price and uncertain physical flow, leading to non-linear PDEs which must be solved numerically. I have investigated such systems in the world of mining, working with the international leading mining software company Gemcom, and also within the framework of Revenue Management systems, working with the local business Inventive IT.

Dr Joseph Mutale

Dr Mutale obtained the BEng degree in Electrical Machines and Power Systems from the University of Zambia. His MSc in Electric Power Transmission and Distribution and PhD in Power System Economics, were obtained from the University of Manchester in 1987 and 2000 respectively. Prior to joining the University of Manchester in 2002 Dr Mutale spent over 15 years in the electric utility industry. His industrial experience includes a wide range of technical posts at ZESCO, the Zambian National Utility, including Director of Engineering Development and Transmission Manager.

Prof Jovica Milanovic

Jovica's research and consultancy work is equally split between the areas of Power System Dynamics and Power Quality with a common, underlying stream of probabilistic / stochastic modelling of uncertainties of events and system parameters.
